A Bachelor's Guide to Cooking - Prawn Pasta

This isn't as easy as the others.

I was watching Hell's Kitchen and some other shows where these guys make some lovely pasta. I just felt the need for cooking non-veg pasta. All these years Mum n I have only tried vegetarian Pasta. So here it goes.

Disclaimer: This is a Bachelor's Kitchen and the pasta was cooked out of sheer desire. The pasta presented here is an 'desi' version. I highly recommend using fresh herbs, celery and parsley along with some oregano seasoning to get the best out.

Firstly choose your favorite pasta. Mine's Penne but I didn't have it at home so I used fuscili instead. Mind you don't try Spaghetti I have a gut feeling that won't go well. Read the instructions on the pasta packet and cook the pasta.

Here's what you need for the sauce

Two Large tomatoes
Half a packet of tomato puree
Chilli Powder
A pinch of garam masala (use some other seasoning please- I didn't have anything else) fresh herbs here would be the best
salt to taste
Prawns as per liking
1 egg
Cheese
2 medium onions
half a capsicum
half a carrot
Ginger Garlic Paste

The above is for one portion sufficient for a giant like me. So if you are cooking for more people please upsize or downsize as per your needs.

Fry the onions in oil till they turn translucent. Add the capsicum and carrot and fry them too till they are slightly tender. The deal here is to keep them crunchy at least that's the way I like it. Add the ginger garlic paste and cook. Now add the tomatoes, tomato puree and some water. Coook till you start to get consitency of a pasta sauce. It shouldn't be too water. Slightly thick. Add the prawns and seasonings and cook.

In a seperate pan cook a fried egg. (You can also cook a scrambled egg)

Once the sauce is ready pour it over the pasta. Add some grated cheese (or cheese blocks as I have done) and the fried egg.(Chop the fried egg prior to garnish).

A common mistake which first time pasta cooks is that they add the pasta to the sauce and cook.
Always add the sauce over the pasta unless your are making macaroni.

Voila. Prawn Pasta is ready.

Preparation time -15 -20 mins
Cooking time for sauce - 10 mins

Bon Appettie.
